Stealing Packages Is The Meanest Thing In The World

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — As holiday packages are on the move, so are the criminals. Surveillance video from one resident in Center City caught two separate incidents in recent months as brazen thieves are seen opening a screen door and walking away with the boxes left inside.

“I’ve heard there’s a crew that follows the delivery trucks whether it be UPS, FedEx, or the post office,” said one man.

Some neighbors are doing what they can to avoid package theft, such as getting their packages delivered to the workplace or using storage lockers across the city, but demand has been higher than supply in some cases.

Full story here.

I don’t understand this. How can you be so heartless to steal a package? It’s a fucking spineless crime form. Nobody knows you’re stealing a package because nobody can fucking the read the address if it’s not two inches from their face. It takes GUTS to see someone pick up a package and tell them that you don’t think it’s theirs. If I saw someone pick up one of my packages I’d probably still find a way to convince myself that it was theirs. Stealing a package takes no challenge, there’s virtually no risk, and fuck you, it’s downright mean.

Do you know how challenging it is to even get a package delivered successfully, or on time? I’ve lived in a new apartment for four months and I’m still accidentally sending packages to my old place. At that place, instead of letting themselves inside, the deliverymen would leave the packages outside wedged between trash bags and lying in dirty alcoves. And sure it makes a lot more sense- when shit like this goes wrong- to have stuff delivered to our offices, but we shouldn’t have to do that. HAVE WE NOT EARNED THE RIGHT TO HAVE PACKAGES DELIVERED TO OUR HOMES?

I should be able to have something left at my god-given address without getting eaten by rats or crackheads trying to retrieve it, let alone have some asshole steal it because he’s feeling grabby. Forget the holidays, if you steal packages you’re an enemy of the state: official blog stance.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Crazy how much more reasonable this seems now that I noticed that it's happening in Philly. Not that it makes it ok, just less surprising.
