In Surprise Move Of The Century: North And South Korea Combine Olympic Teams

Seoul (CNN)North and South Korean athletes will march together at the Winter Olympics opening ceremony under a unified flag, the South said Wednesday, in a diplomatic breakthrough following days of talks between the two countries.

The nations have also agreed to form a joint North and South Korean women's ice hockey team for the Games in Pyeongchang, which begin early next month, South Korea's unification ministry said.

Excuse me? I did not see this coming. This is like when your buddy and his girlfriend have the worst fight of their relationship and then announce the next day that they’re engaged. Actually, I don’t know if that’s what it’s like because that never happens. Guys, aren’t we in a standoff? Four days ago didn’t we think that North Korea was lobbing missiles at Hawaii? I just feel like this is pretty anticlimactic news. You can’t go to war with a country you just won an olympic medal with! I guess this is good news, then! All we need is the Korean hockey team to win a gold medal and maybe everything will be fine! Of course, that would involve team USA losing, and well… that ain’t happening, ladies. You think we’d trade a gold medal for peace? Fuck that, no way! There’s way too much misguided patriotism in the picture to come to a rational choice like that.

Can’t be easy to just join hands and play on the same squad though, right? There’s got to be some tension here because if the team loses than the South Korean half just goes home, and the North Korean half disappears. That’s not conducive to a healthy locker room at all! Lives are on the line here.

P.S. This will be a great movie in twenty years if the world is still around then.
