Father Rescued From Taliban Accused Of Assault And Other Not Nice Things

(CNN) A Canadian man who spent five years with his family in militant captivity in Afghanistan was arrested in Ottawa, his lawyer said, on charges including assault and sexual assault.

Joshua Boyle, who returned to Canada in October with his American wife and three children, faces 15 charges in connection with incidents alleged to have happened since the family's return, according to court documents.

Okay, look, I cannot imagine what it’s like to be in Taliban captivity. I can’t imagine what this family went through, and it sounds unbelievably harrowing. But hey, you know what? You can’t do this, man! You can’t just get back from captivity and start assaulting people.

Are we allowed to send him back? Like, Taliban, you took this guy from us, and then we took him back from you; but somewhere along the way it seems like you really messed him up, and well, we don’t want him anymore. Does that work? Is that a line of communication we can open? I mean obviously this guy’s dealing with some shit, and I hope he gets the help he needs- but also, worst case is it a possibility to send him back? Just send him back and say, “Hey Taliban, you broke this, now you fix it.” Is that heartless? Yes, it is. But again, I’m talking worst case scenario. It wouldn’t be too hard, just get Seal Team 6 to drop this guy where they found him! Put a ribbon on him! Maybe throw in a cherry pie. I mean, when we went in we thought we were rescuing a nice dude, not a sexual assaulter, and hey, that’s mostly on us, but also seems like some false marketing. You break it, you buy it.
