A former leader in the American Nazi Party is about to be the only Republican on the ticket for a congressional race in Illinois. 

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Arthur Jones, a Holocaust denier who has repeatedly tried ― and failed ― to attain office, is the only candidate seeking the GOP nod for the seat in the heavily Democratic 3rd Congressional District.

Images on Jones’ campaign website showed him speaking at KKK and neo-Nazi events, giving the Nazi salute and shredding the flag of Israel. He called the Confederate flag the symbol of “white pride,” “white resistance” and “white counterrevolution.” Jones also told the Sun-Times that the Holocaust was “an international extortion racket.”

“Well, it’s absolutely the best opportunity in my entire political career,” he told the Chicago Tribune. “Every time I’ve run it’s been against a Republican who follows this politically correct nonsense. This time they screwed up.”

Don’t want to seem too demanding, but before this slips through the cracks it feels like somebody should oppose this guy on the Republican ticket, no? I mean I don’t want to force anybody’s hand here but just seems like an easy win. This is literally just a classic show-up-and-beat-this-guy-because-he’s-a-nazi type of thing. He’s not even trying to hide it! Again, really don’t want to inconvenience anybody but if it strikes your fancy to combat somebody who spends their Saturdays shredding Israeli flags and trying to summon Adolf on the Ouija board, there’s no time like the present!

Did people just miss the memo in terms of the elections this year, or is this just the least desirable congressional district to represent in the fucking country? Are the Democrats such a shoe-in that it’s not even worth running? Doesn’t matter! Somebody should oppose the Nazi! This guy is running on the platform that the wrong team won Raiders Of The Lost Ark. That's a fairly nuanced anti-Nazi argument! Not something you need on a regular basis! The non-nuanced anti-Nazi arguments usually get the job done!

I know you may think the bar’s set pretty low for office right now, but it’s still above SS officer. So here it is guys: your name on the Republican ticket of some bumfuck district in Illinois. Yours if you want it!
