This Embryo Clinic Had One Job: And That Was Not To Lose All The Embryos

(CNN)An Ohio fertility clinic says more than 4,000 eggs and embryos were affected by a freezer malfunction, double the number previously thought -- and that it's unlikely any of them are viable.
The University Hospitals Fertility Clinic also said about 950 families were affected by the storage tank failure earlier this month. At the time, the facility in Cleveland said it believed about 700 families were affected.

Full story here.

Let’s start off by saying this is a colossal bummer. Colossal. This is also a colossal fuck up. I’m not saying the whole embryo thing is easy, but good god it should be easier than this. You’re whole purpose is to preserve these things. There are a million reasons why embryos could get ruined. A million. I can’t name three of them, but there are a million. Refrigerator failure is not one of those reasons.

Seriously, the one requirement is that the fridge never turns off. What is this thing? The dorm fridge from my freshman year of college? Are you storing embryos in a fucking keg-orator? Steve probably tripped over the refrigerator cord with his foot again. Fucking Steve. These things should not happen. We shouldn’t have a whole carton of future-children-eggs go bad because of Steve’s clumsy fucking feet. Feels like there should be a few fail-safe’s in place, or at least tape that hypothetical cord down.

All I’m saying is that my lunch meat and 400 embryos should never go bad for the same reason. That’s called an oversight. I don’t even know how you start to refund (*that sounds like the wrong word*) people here. A gift card to Panera surely isn’t going to cut it.
