Hey Ever Heard Of A Baby Box? Me Neither.
MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – For the second time in five months, an infant has been left in a baby box at a northwestern Indiana volunteer fire station.
The padded, climate-controlled box was installed about two years ago. The program allows a mother to relinquish her newborn anonymously, without fear of prosecution.
Another baby girl was safely rescued after being left in the box on Nov. 7.

So apparently this is a thing in Indiana, and Indiana only. Needless to say it's pretty self explanatory: basically a baby box is a container where you can put your baby if you don’t want it. Frankly, I think it’s a good idea, and it gives someone who’s in a desperate situation a way out that hopefully keeps the kid safe. That being said, this thing is literally just how it sounds- it’s a box for a baby. We’re talking a metal container with a blanket here. Could we make this a little nicer? Would it kill you to put a pillow in there or paint it pink or something? I feel like this is far more barebones then it needs to be.
I mean we’re talking keeping an infant alive for a night. I can’t speak from any experience, but I’d wager that’s not necessarily a walk in the park. I’m not saying this thing needs to be top of the line luxurious, but anything better than just sticking the kid I don’t want in a mailbox.
