Holiday Quick Hitter: Oh Apparently 57 Million Uber Accounts Got Hacked Last Year

CNN- Uber says it paid hackers $100,000 after they stole data last year on 57 million of its users. The startup did not disclose the attack until Tuesday, adding a potential cover up to a list of recent corporate controversies.

Uber said that two people outside the company accessed the personal information of 57 million Uber users in late 2016, including names, email addresses and phone numbers. The license numbers of around 600,000 drivers in the United States were included in the breach.

Full story here.

Man, Uber, let up! We get it! You guys are a shitty company with no values! There’s no need to keep on piling up scandals like this, we’re all on the same page now.

You’ve got to have some serious guts to be running that company right now, right? Everybody hates you for a myriad of reasons, competition is through the roof, and well, apparently we don’t know all about all of your fuck ups yet.

It is INSANE that nobody has heard about this until now. This is the type of shady backroom deal that is never supposed to see the light of day. Like this is the type of thing that you do so that no one ever finds out about the hacked data. Now that everybody knows about the hacked data, it’s a lose lose! Nobody cares that they didn’t lose any money, people only care that you failed to fucking mention it for 12 months! I mean at this point they might as well accept that they're the bad bitch on the block. You could be the biggest villains in the game, and people would still pour their entire paychecks into a ride from Brooklyn to Harlem. It's 2017; trains are for Monday through Friday morning, and Uber knows it.

But not me, I'm taking a stand. From now on I’m going to use Lyft every time it’s cheaper.
