Hello.

I went to college to learn how to spell and it's not going great for me.

The Red Lobster Employee Who Found and Saved a 1 in 2 Million Blue Lobster Deserves So Much More Credit Than We’re Giving Them

A rare blue lobster has received a reprieve after a restaurant sent it to an Ohio zoo for conservation instead of consumption.

An Akron Zoo Facebook post on Sunday said a Red Lobster employee who found a blue lobster in a delivery to the Cuyahoga Falls eatery recognized just how rare the creatures are.

About 1 of every 2 million lobsters is blue, according to the zoo. The blue shell is due to a genetic anomaly.

Full story here.

TLDR: on my watch, this lobster dies.

Do you know how fucking fed up and out of it essential workers must be right now? I mean, look I don’t want to take anything away from them at all- they’re putting our nation on their backs to help businesses stay open and help us maintain a sense of normalcy. But, how fucking tired must they be. Not only are you sweating your dick off at a job that’s difficult without  wearing a mask over your nose and mouth, you’re also worried about all the folks not wearing a mask, or not washing their hands, or not thinking Covid is real. That weighs on you! especially when you actually think for a second and realize that the service industry was fucking grind in the first place.

My long winded point is, the awareness and wherewithal to realize this wasn’t just a funky colored lobster is out of this world. If I’m six hours into a shift at an Ohio Red Lobster, lightyears away from where lobsters are born, in the rush zone, and I’ve heard so many people ask for more cheddar biscuits that it’s literally ringing in my ears- I’m tossing everything in front of me into the pot. You might as well just sue me now: I’m talking rare lobsters, I’m talking random potatoes, I’m talking the aforementioned cheddar biscuits, I’m talking the sous chef’s thumb, I’m telling you it’s all chowder tonight baby. Sure you’re kind of doing something cool by saving this lobster, but think of the tediousness of this- you gotta call over the manager, they’ve gotta google blue lobsters, you’ve gotta find the number for a zoo, you gotta get those biscuits out to table 6 or they’re going to start a brawl and endanger said lobster.

I don’t know if we’ve got a medal for essential workers yet, but this Red Lobster employee is first on my list. If you’re working full shifts at a chain sea food restaurant and still find the strength to save a one in two million life - you are a hero. May we all find this strength. Except for me, give my strength to someone else. It won’t help me. I will cook this lobster 9,999,999 times out of 1,000,000. One of the times I will forget how to cook.
