Jameis Winston Under Investigation For Sexual Assault

The NFL is investigating a claim from a former Uber driver, who says Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston sexually assaulted her in Arizona. Buzzfeed obtained a letter from Lisa Friel, the NFL’s special counsel for investigations, which was sent to the woman (named as only "Kate" to protect her identity) who accused Winston of groping her crotch. “The League has been informed that you may have been the victim of such a violation perpetrated by Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Jameis Winston," the letter said. The league takes allegations of this nature very seriously and has opened an investigation into this matter.”

Full story here.

I know most of our criticism surrounding these allegations should wait until we see all the evidence and hear all parties speak, but fuck, Jameis- you really seem like a dick!

To be clear, it’s possible he didn’t do this. But the guy just seems unable to keep his name out of the mud. I don’t know Jameis Winston, and so I can’t truly judge his character; but somebody has got to tell him to keep his head down for a while. This is not the first time his name has come up in conversations about sexual assault, and at some point you just don't the benefit of the doubt any more. I don’t know what world he lives in, but it’s pretty clear that many NFL teams in 2017 care more about PR issues than embattled quarterbacks.

It just seems like for a mediocre player, Jameis’ name comes up a whole lot in terms of doing bad stuff. That’s not to say that if he was a good player any of this would be excusable, but I get the sense that he feels more protected than he should. I mean Ezekiel Elliot, who was a rookie of the year candidate last season, is out for the year because of an ongoing investigation. Johnny Manziel, who grabbed more negative headlines than positive in his brief stint with Browns, washed out after a couple of seasons himself. So Jameis, take note; because you grab a lot of headlines for a guy who doesn’t play that well, and nobody’s job is that secure. It may legitimately be in the Buccaneer’s best interest to just duct tape him to a chair for a couple of months, and probably in Jameis' best interest too! Otherwise, something tells me his time is short.
