Hello.

I went to college to learn how to spell and it's not going great for me.

Kid Wrongly Declared A Hero. Again.

Kid Wrongly Declared A Hero. Again.

GLENDALE, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

Glendale firefighters are calling an 11-year-old boy a hero for alerting his family to a fire in their backyard.

Crews say the fire started Thursday afternoon in a shed and the flames spread to the home.

"We see smoke and we immediately get up, run into my house and then we screamed 'fire. Everyone get out. Fire, fire, fire, fire,'" says Jacob King.

He says he was taking a break after shooting hoops with his friend when he saw the shed on fire.

Hey here's a spoiler-alert for anyone who's read any one of these blogs ever, this kid is not a hero. Is he a good kid? Seems like it! Does he have good judgement? Sure! Was it nice of him to save his family? Sure was! Is he a hero? Fuuuuck no. Again with this crap. We can't keep lowering our standards for heroism, guys. This kid did a totally nice thing, but it was also totally expected. What was he supposed to do, not tell his family that their shed was on fire? That's ridiculous! Heroism requires some level of "you didn't have to do that" not "my house is burning down I should tell someone" I've talked about this in earlier blogs, the alternative here is that the kid leaves his family to burn, and that's the work of a sociopath. Get your shit together, media. You're turning little kids into heroes when they're not, and I'm making enemies because of it. We have people out here thinking that this child deserves to be knighted, when really he should get a pat on the head and a "well done" from dad.

The kid who donated his Xbox to buy blankets for homeless people? That guy's a hero. The kid who called 911 for his neighbor when he was told to, that's not a hero; that's just a kid following instructions. This kid? He's somewhere in the middle. He didn't do anything medal-worthy, but he did save his family's lives with some quick thinking. Oh boy, am I changing my mind? NO. SNAP OUT OF IT KEEGAN. There's no scenario where you don't warn your family. The guy probably had no idea what to do otherwise! Like what's he gonna do, run, leave his family to the flames, and start anew? Fuck no.  Great job kiddo, you did normal/good, but you're no hero. The blog has spoken. Have a nice, Friday.
