Blood Bringers Game 2: Pregame Report
Everybody knows that one of the most important qualities that make a leader is quality delegation. That rings especially true this week, where I will not be attending my professional, semipro, amateur, g-league Zog Sports basketball team’s game. I’ve given my teammates no information on the opposing team, in fact, I’ve given them very little at all. I won’t be a helicopter parent to this squad of young (and old) men. You know what they say: the baby bird only learns to fly after it plummets to its death. I’ve set up myself up perfectly here: either the guys win this weekend and I credit myself for assembling an all-star squad, or we lose this weekend and I return as the hero the team needs. It’s a win-win for me, and a win-win for the Blood Bringers.
In all honesty, we may be in trouble. I joked in the Week 1 pregame that we would be a team centered around rebounding and ball screens, but it turns out that we are indeed a team centered around rebounding and mediocre ball screens. Those are our “strengths”. Our weaknesses are jump shots, lay ups, dunks, post-moves, general scoring, not turning the ball over, dribbling, passing, closing out shooters, defense, ankles, jumping, and winning. It’s fair to say we know who we are.
All I know is that there’s a team out there that’s full of 6’7” dudes who are dunking on everything that moves, literally a real life version of the Monstars, and those guys will absolutely eat us alive. If we play them this week, I may be returning to the city to coach six body bags.
